Hampshire clubs have been informed by the Hampshire Referees’ Society that one of their members has recently given up refereeing due to constant questioning, moaning and appealing of their decisions, from players, coaches and spectators. This is totally against the spirit and values of rugby and should not be tolerated by any club. Rugby is famous for its respect for its officials and this needs to continue. Also, rugby cannot afford to lose referees, as without them there can be no game.
If you hear such comments from a fellow spectator or team-mate, please challenge them. Clubs can be punished for the actions of their players and spectators. By working together, clubs can keep the unique spirit of the game intact.
Thanks,
