Isle of Wight RFC have recently reached out to an under-resourced rugby club in Uganda, providing them with much needed training balls and kit. The initiative was driven by club stalwart Dave Metcalfe. Former IWRFC player Brett Evans is player-coach with the Tooro Lions in Western Uganda, and said: 'We want to deliver a huge thank you to Isle of Wight RFC and in particular Dave for sending rugby balls and training shirts for @toorolions. Facilities and equipment are in fairly short supply in Western Uganda but the passion for rugby is not. The guys at the club are so appreciative and will make the most of the gifts to help develop and improve their skills.' Rugby is a quickly growing sport in Uganda, and their national sevens team performed with great credit at the recent Commonwealth Games 7s, running England close in one of their games.
