After the hardships suffered from the pandemic, Isle of Wight RFC convened on Saturday and took the opportunity to gather as a club and remember club stalwarts who had passed away in recent times. Dave Bibby, Jeff Dove, Bob Cooper and John Fulljames were all honoured, while IWRFC legend Paul Cunningham was particularly remembered on the day. IWRFC were delighted to welcome several members of Paul's family to the club for the event.
Paul served as a player at IWRFC for many years, and is thought to be the club's record points scorer. He subsequently served two terms as club chairman, and also was responsible for coaching for a number of seasons. The huge turnout at the event was a mark of the respect in which he was held, and allowed many old friends and club members to reunite after many years apart. MC Richard Beardsall ably compered the formalities, assisted by club chair Stuart Browne, while Paul's son Alex paid tribute to his father and thanked the club for the event. This was followed by a thoroughly enjoyable evening at the club, the kind which has been sorely missed because of recent restrictions.
