Isle of Wight RFC continued its centenary celebrations with a specially convened match between a Club XV and an IWRFC President's invitational XV. The occasion and glorious sunshine drew a huge crowd to Wootton Rec, who were treated to a mixed touch match and Vectis RFC u10s exhibition match, before the centrepiece game.
A very strong President's XV won the high-scoring main match comprehensively 72-28, fielding ex-IWRFC players along with some players from the other Island clubs. Youngsters Jesse Butchers and Jack Davis were among those who scored more than once for a team selected by club President Dave Metcalfe and captained by stalwart Ollie Boulter. The Club XV did have their moments and scored four tries of their own, two for captain Luke Blackman and one each for Dave Hanson and George Huish, while evergreen prop Martin Newnham was named Biffa man of the match.
Afterwards, players and supporters along with a host of club members past and present came together in the clubhouse to toast Isle of Wight RFC and make further memories. A raffle was held and raised £518 for MNDA IW - the club would like to thank all who supported the raffle and donated prizes.
